Highlands, Buttermilk Opening and Summit for Life

Winter is in full swing here in Aspen Snowmass. Aspen Mountain is 77% open with a base of 24 inches, while Snowmass Ski Resort is 33% open with a 32 inch base. All four mountains will be open as of this weekend. There is plenty to do this weekend on and off the mountain. With more snow predicted for later, the conditions should be ideal for a fun-filled weekend! 

Aspen Highlands will be opening this weekend with a total of 717 acres open. Cloud 9 and Merry-Go Round restaurants will be opening for business. Skiers and riders can expect North Woods, Child’s Play, and G8-G0 in Highlands Bowl, as well as most of the frontside to be open. All of Highlands’ lifts will be running, except Thunderbowl, which will open on the following Saturday, December 14th. All skier services will be opening too.

If you prefer a more family friendly mountain with easier terrain, you’re in luck. Buttermilk will open for the season on Saturday, December 7th. There will be approximately 300 acres of terrain available to skiers and riders, with more to open as conditions allow. Bumps and Cliffhouse will be open for business. Stop by Bumps starting at 1pm to celebrate local legend and icon Klaus Obermeyer! Klaus turned 100 years old this week, and the celebrations continue. Skiers and riders are encouraged to wear their best retro Obermeyer gear, indulge in complimentary apple strudel, and toast to Klaus. After a fun day on the four mountains, check out Summit for Life. This nighttime, uphill race begins promptly at 5:30pm on Saturday, December 7th at the base of Aspen Mountain. Hosted by Chris Klug Foundation, this race is meant to raise tissue and organ donor awareness. If hiking isn’t your thing but you’d still like to participate, consider the Ride for Life.
