Happy Winter XGames weekend! XGames 2020 returns to Buttermilk Mountain and Aspen this weekend. This is one of the greatest exhibitions in winter sports, right here in our backyard. Between all of the extreme sporting events, concerts at XGames and the Belly Up, apres ski parties, and deals- there is a lot going on. Here are the top three tips to XGames like a local.
- Beware of concert ticket scams! Most of the Belly Up XGames shows are sold out, except for Bazzi on Sunday night. For tickets, head over to www.bellyupaspen.com. If you were looking forward to Rae Sremmurd, Alesso, or Bazzi, there’s still a chance. These artists have double performances this weekend, at both the Belly Up and at the base of Buttermilk Mountain. For tickets to these shows, visit https://xgamesaspen.frontgatetickets.com.
- You don’t have to be at Buttermilk to enjoy XGames. Some locals will tell you the best view of XGames action is from your own couch or at a local restaurant on ESPN. The XGames extreme spirit is celebrated throughout downtown Aspen all weekend. Select restaurants are open later and offering this weekend only deals (www.eataspen.com). New to town this winter, Snow Lodge is bringing the music of XGames to the apres ski scene. Head over to their sunny deck at the base of Aspen Mountain to see big name artists, such as Sofi Tukker and St. Lucia for frea.
- Take the bus! Whether you’re going to the concerts at the base of Buttermilk, heading into the XGames arena for any event, or getting to downtown Aspen for after parties, take RFTA and special courtesy shuttles. New this year, there is a designated area for ridesharing across the street from Buttermilk. As most locals will tell you, the bus is the most efficient and preferred, not to mention free, mode of transportation. Check out www.rfta.com for bus schedules.
Have a safe and fun XGames weekend!

Happy Friday from Aspen! The temperatures have warmed up, but the snow from last week’s storms is here to stay! Opening Day for Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski Resort is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, November 28th. There is a lot to look forward to every season. This season is especially exciting with new on-mountain restaurants, in-town improvements, favorite and new events. There is something for everyone!
Formerly known as Sam’s Smokehouse, the new and improved Sam’s plans to open its doors on Opening Day, Thursday, November 28th. After a multi-million dollar remodel, guests are invited to enjoy the big views and redesigned menu. This favorite on-mountain restaurant at the Top of Sam’s Knob on Snowmass will now feature Italian and Mediterranean fare, a slipper room, and a live-action kitchen.
Snowmass Base Village will be unveiling its second phase this December. One Snowmass residences open Mid-December. Buildings formerly known as 6, 7, and 8 will now house the new Snowmass Clinic, a local, dynamic art gallery, King Yoga, Aspen JUS, as well as an eyewear store. A second Grand Opening for the second phase of Base Village is scheduled for mid-December. For more information visit www.allinsnowmass.com
XGames returns to Aspen January 23-26, 2020. ESPN’s winter showcase signed on for another five years at Aspen Snowmass just last winter. Without an Olympics or a world championship, this event is the highlight of the winter athlete competition circuit. As of now, the only local athlete expected to compete is Alex Ferreira, who won Gold in Men’s Superpipe last year. To learn more, go to www.xgames.com/aspen
NASTAR National Championship is back at Snowmass for the first time since 2015. NASTAR stands for National Standard Race. NASTAR is the world’s largest all-level ski and snowboard race program that allows racers to compete against each other at over 100 different courses, which include Aspen and Snowmass. This season’s National Championship will be held at Snowmass March 24-28, 2020. Check out www.nastar.com/national-championships for more details and information.

It’s that time of the year again! Town is packed, and for good reason. Starting today, watch the best winter sports athletes in the world compete for their chance to take home the gold in the 2019 Winter X Games at Buttermilk Mountain. In addition to the competitions, there will be live performances by Lil’ Wayne, Louis The Child, The Chainsmokers, and Kygo! Walk around the X Games interactive village in-between events for the chance to get merchandise, free swag, and information about events. As local competitor Alex Ferreira likes to say, it truly is the super bowl of skiing! In addition to X Games events, there’s a Historic Pub Crawl, a Historic Hotel Jerome tour, Historic Ski tours of Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands, a Friday Morning Uphill Breakfast on Buttermilk, and tours at the Aspen Art Museum. What a weekend to be in Aspen! Happy X Games from all of us at Klug Properties!

Happy Winter X Games! Aspen, CO is once again full with X Games athletes, media, industry friends, and visitors. It is so exciting to drive by Buttermilk Mountain at night the past days and see it light up with athletes training and preparing for action starting today. I was at Buttermilk this morning helping set-up our Chris Klug Foundation booth in the Team ESPN Tent in the sponsors village. Last year we spoke directly with seven thousand people about organ donation and passed out lime green Donor Dudes sunglasses and swag. Stop by our booth this year to check out the Donor Dude. Our friend Greg Lipp created an interactive Donor Dude to promote organ donation.
I attended an Aspen Board of Realtors luncheon yesterday with Ted Jones PhD. Sr. VP and Chief Economist for Stewart Title as the keynote speaker. He was very bullish on the local Aspen real estate market. His opinion was that the stock market was overvalued and that the bottom is behind us in the Aspen Real Estate Market. He stressed that jobs are the key to recovery. As job numbers go up, real estate will also rise. We've had two years of housing numbers on the increase in Aspen. He felt 2009 was the best time to buy in Aspen. I personally feel there are some great values and choices for buyers today. According to Dr. Jones essential to a sustained recovery is a national political landscape that will work together to come up with a long-term plan for the national debt crisis.
I toured a couple of new listings this morning that I wanted to share with you. 727 Creek Tree Condos Unit 727 listed by Frias Properties is a four bedroom, three bath riverfront town home across from Herron Park in downtown Aspen. The unit is dated, but has great southern exposure and views of Aspen Mountain on the banks of the Roaring Fork River with a carport and only four units in complex for $2,999,000. I also looked at 777 South Ute Ave. Units 1 & 1A listed by BJ Adams & Co. It seems absurdly priced at $8,198,000, but with five bedrooms, four bath, a roof top deck with Jacuzzi, an elevator, an 800 square foot bonus room with pool table and work out equipment, three underground parking spaces in the downtown core, two blocks from the Silver Queen Gondola and a short walk to the Aspen Club on the East Aspen trail it's unique. For $1,655 a month in HOA dues you get to take advantage of the Aspen Alps amenities and shuttle. Unit 2 is also available next door for $1,795,000, creating a seven bedroom, seven thousand square foot compound.
I'm here full-time working and playing and being a new dad. I hope to see you out at the X Games this weekend. Stop by our CKF booth and say hi. Call or email me anytime to discus the Aspen market in more detail. Thanks for checking out my site; I hope it was helpful. Enjoy your weekend!
