Woody Creek

Situated in the valley of the Roaring Fork River, just 15 minutes northwest of Aspen along Highway 82, the tiny enclave of Woody Creek has its roots in a log cabin built by the Lee Jones family in the 1940s. This cabin now houses the infamous Woody Creek Tavern, where the late, renowned journalist Hunter S. Thompson was a regular at the bar. Despite its fame, Woody Creek retains its peaceful, ranching community feel, with home options ranging from modern riverfront properties to expansive equestrian estates. Upper Woody Creek Road offers quick access to the legendary ghost town of Lenado, which serves as a gateway to hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails in the White River National Forest.
